How to Monetize your blog from day 1

Hi everyone! How are you all? Today I’ll be answering the most common question I’ve ever been asked since starting my blog: “How do you make money blogging”?

So many of you are curious to find out how to launch a successful blog, or how to take your blogging adventure to the next level. I’ve been doing this for almost five months now, and I’ve been incredibly surprised to notice how fast things can grow if you put all your love, effort and commitment into it.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Elly, and I’m a Healthy Lifestyle, Yoga & Natural Beauty blogger. Although I’m mostly knowledgeable on how things work within my niche, the tips I am going to share with you guys are applicable to almost any other blog topic. Whether you are writing about Fitness, Fashion, Lifestyle, Parenthood or Beauty, here is my best advice on how to take your blog to the next level…

Treat it like a Job

If there is just one piece of advice your are going to take from me today, make sure it’s this one. If you want to start earning money from day 1, you have to make sure you are treating your blog as a job from day 1. This is really no secret; hard work, quality and consistency do pay off. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong about treating your blog as a hobby. However, you can’t expect for brands and companies to reach out to you for collaborations, if they get the feeling you are only doing this for fun. Enjoyment is paramount, but if you are planning to garner a big audience and maybe one day live out of it, you have to put in the work to get there. Set goals and deadlines for yourself, and commit to it 100%.

Network, Network, Network

One of the most important things I’ve learnt in these 5 months blogging, is that online growth is all about collaboration. Seize any opportunity you have to join forces with likeminded, respectful and hard working bloggers and brands. Cross-promotion is the very best tool you have to grow your blog. Guest post, feature other bloggers, and ask be featured on other people’s blogs. Promote products you truly believe in, and collaborate with brands you want to see grow, and that want to see you grow. Be professional all the time, keep networking whether you are doing it online or in person. Attend blogging conferences, and join Facebook Blogging Community Groups to meet other bloggers within your niche. Reach out to those you admire, and always look for creative ways to help each other out.

If you’re a Healthy Lifestyle Blogger, you are also very welcome to join our own little Facebook Group too!

Become a Brand Ambassador through Phlanx.com

One of the most empowering ways to start monetizing your blog is to connect and to collaborate with companies whose work you truly believe in. If you’re a passionate and dependable blogger, and your work is consistent and relevant, trust me, you could be on to something special.

Phlanx.com is an outstanding Social Media Marketing Platform for bloggers and brands to connect with one another. I’ve been using it for approximately 3 months now, and I’ve had nothing but great, professional and reliable working experiences through them. Although having a following of 1K or more could probably land you more gigs, you don’t need it to start working through Phlanx.com. I landed my first job with only 300 followers!

What really matters to brands, is the quality of your content, your consistency, your growth potential, and how engaged your audience is. On Phlanx.com brands and companies can verify how active your audience is through an engagement calculator (which is a great tool for newbie bloggers that are just starting off but already have a very active and supportive group of followers).

Thanks to Phlanx.com I had the opportunity to become a proud Brand Ambassador of two companies whose work I truly believe in. We are collaborating with one another to help each other grow, and I want to introduce them to you as I really believe in our work together.

  • Jode-Ian: a Natural Beauty Company renown for their incredible skincare products. They manufacture creams and oils using only clean, natural, organic and botanical ingredients. They believe in results over words, and they are currently working at formulating skincare products for vegans, using only plant-based ingredients.
  • Fitness Wear Venue: a dedicated unique Fitness Apparel Store, that ships quality products worldwide, and strives for 100% customer satisfaction.

If you love their products as much as I do, and you want to purchase something, I have for both brands a special 10% discount code for you to use when you check out: Elly10

Join the Amazon’s Associates Program

It is no secret that the Amazon’s Associates Program is most probably the most efficient tool to start monetizing your blog from day 1. Amazon is a highly visited, and well known name, that people trust and use everyday. There are no traffic thresholds or metrics to meet to be accepted on the program, and also, most importantly, it is free to join. That means that virtually, through the Amazon’s Associates Program, any blogger with one post published, could immediately start earning money from their blog.

How many fellow bloggers do I have out there? What topics does your blog cover?

Leave a link to your blog in the comments below, and I promise I’ll take a peak! Also, let me know if you are interested in guesting here, as I am always looking for new collaborations!

  2. Great suggestions. If I had to do over, though, I would have held off on being an Amazon affiliate, since we weren’t getting as much traffic in the beginning and once we became associated, the clock was ticking on how long we had to get sales before they shut down this partnership. It’s been a little over a year now and we are much wiser and our audience is much more engaged and I am confident that when we reapply we can be successful. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

  4. Hi Elly, great article and congratulations on breaking the 1,000 view barrier today. I’ve yet to earn as a result of my blog, but I hope to turn that corner soon. I am an Amazon affiliate, but no sales yet. I think it really depends on the niche your blog is in. Mine is on positivity, and people come to the blog to look for uplifting things to read, but have yet to buy anything I have offered… not sure what is preventing that first click from materializing! If you would take a look at my blog, I would love your feedback and advice!
    Best regards and congratulations again!

    1. Dear Joan, thank you so much for stopping by and for your lovely comment :).
I have checked your blog and I first of all wanted to say congratulations for being one of the Top 75 happiness blogs.
I think you are doing an amazing job there helping others find their mindfulness/happiness path!
I was giving a look around, and I believe your content is great…but I struggled to find any affiliate link at all. If you want to push sales, you might want to consider putting more affiliate links than you have placed so far. As I suggested in the last paragraph of my blog post, Carolina King’s e-book is a great source to learn how to maximise affiliate exposure on your blog. But I understand you don’t want to spam. And you are doing great, you just have to decide for yourself if promoting books/guides etc is something you want to do more of, or not.
Best of luck with your blogging adventure.
And congratulations again on your achievements!
      Have a wonderful day!
