My Evening Skin Care Routine

The more I look into beauty, the more one thing becomes clear to me: there is no amount of make-up that will ever eclipse the natural glow of healthy looking skin. With each year passing by, I’m becoming more and more aware of how essential a proper skin care routine is. Healthy skin is the foundation of the natural beauty look many of us are trying to achieve. When asked what my beauty secret is, I always say that less is more when it comes to make-up. I take very good care of my skin in order to have that confident healthy look of being able to be outside without using much make-up at all. That means using great skin care products, instead of trying to cover up bad skin with layers and layers of make-up.

What I only just recently discovered, it that there is in fact a proper order in which we should all be applying our facial products, to make the most of our skin care regime. If you’re curious to see what I’ve learnt, and are keen to give it a go, keep scrolling down to see my improved evening routine for a natural, healthy and beautiful glow…

Step 1: Clenser

It should be no secret, that the first and foremost important thing you should do, is to remove all the make-up and air pollution residues from your skin. If you really want to give your skin the best shot at being glowing and beautiful, you have to start off from a completely clean surface. Thoroughly cleanse your skin every morning and night, even if you haven’t been wearing any make-up at all. Without even realizing, you might have accumulated dirt or sweat particles throughout the day, that could potentially clog your pores, and accelerate your skin’s ageing process.

Step 2: Toner

Toning is an essential second step in the cleansing process, however, many people unfortunately often decide to leave this step out. Not only will a good toner soothe, nourish and hydrate your skin preparing it for the following treatments; but it will also remove all the remaining bits of oil, dirt and debris that might have been left behind by the cleanser.

Step 3: Treatment Products

Weather you are treating acne, uneven texture, fine lines, or anything in between, this is the moment you should be applying your focused facial treatment to your freshly cleansed skin. As you’ll be curling up in bed fresh-faced, you’ll be giving these products the optimal conditions to work at their maximum potential.

Step 4: Oils & Serums*

Oils* and serums contain very concentrated active ingredients that will genuinely boost the effects of your skin care routine. They usually come in smaller containers as a little bit goes a long way. This is the stage in which you want to apply them, before you put on any moisturizer or heavy cream.

At the moment, my absolute favourite beauty product is the Jode-Ian* Revitalizing Facial Oil* for oily skins. I’ve been using it daily since April, and I’ve instantly fallen in love with it. It has a gorgeous silky texture, and a deliciously luxurious vanilla fragrance. Not only it helped my skin gain a boost of radiance, it also genuinely helped me keep my breakouts in check.

Step 5: Eye Cream

If you’re in your teens, or your early 20ies, I’d say you can honestly skip this step. As long as you are properly hydrating and moisturizing the area, for the time being you are good to jump to step 6. For those of you, who like me, are over 25, this is the moment in which you want to apply your eye cream. Weather you are working with a brightening, anti-aging or collagen boosting eye cream, make sure you have it on before you moisturize, so it will be able to penetrate your skin without any roadblock.

Step 6: Moisturizer

Last but not least, make sure you are ending your routine by thoroughly hydrating your skin with the right moisturizer for your skin type. Moisturizing is an essential step in your skin care routine, and you should always make sure you are applying your hydrating cream last. Saving this step for the end will allow you not only to nourish your skin, but also to lock in all the benefits of the skin care products you’ve been layering underneath it.

Tip: If you are ever uncertain about the order in which you should be layering your skin care products, make sure you are always going in order of consistency, from the lightest to the thickest.

  3. I love that you use oil in your skincare routine. I will have to incorporate them and see if it helps my acne scars.
